Into the Wolves' Den.....

Leaving Scotstoun Stadium behind, the West Coast Trojans headed east to the Wolves' Den, Meadowbank Stadium, the home of the Edinburgh Wolves.

It was a very hot summer day and the City of Edinburgh was teeming with visitors, and the route to the Stadium meant a walk from Waverley Station, as a Royal Wedding was taking place not far away and transport was nil or severely hampered by the sheer numbers of well wishers.

At the stadium, the 7-0 Trojans entered a game that would be their last road game of the the 2011 regular season.

With the sun rising temperature on and off the field, the two teams squared up. For the Wolves there was a score to settle after their recent loss to the Trojans at Scotstoun and for the Trojans, the keeping alive the "perfect season" tally so far. It was all to play for.

Both teams started well, but it was the Trojans and their slightly larger squad, and the ability to rest players, that continued to gain ground. However points scored was being chased by penalties that were also starting to stack up.

The second half saw the Wolves try to come back, but the Trojans grip held the scores apart and eventually came out winners when time ran out.

For me it was the start of the journey home and the problem of getting these images onto the internet and into the press. The lack of broadband connection ultimately causing a delay in getting them online.

For the Trojans it was onwards and upwards, now 8-0 they would next face the Dundee Hurricanes at Scotstoun, in what could be a very tough challenge.
