Power Surge.
Sunshine interlaced with cloudy periods became the backdrop for the eagerly awaited first match up of the 2008 season.
For the West Coast Trojans, who were missing a few senior players from last years squad, they needed to prove that they weren't out of their depth and could still mix it with the best.
Staffordshire Surge would be the initial test for the team quickly gaining a reputation as one of the best. And in true Trojans style, they took the challenge to the Surge and put the first score on the board. Or would have done, if in fact we had a Scoreboard!
The game ebbed and flowed, with both teams taking their turns with possession of the ball, but it was the Trojans who capitalized on the plays, scoring more times than I could keep track over the next few quarters.
How is it that just when you get ready to shoot from one end of the field, it invariably occurs just when an unexpected play or "end of quarter" sees the action move in the opposite direction. Still that is all part of the challenge of trying to photograph the action of this great game.
As the game wound up, both teams thanked each other and the officiating team for the game, and the Surge walked back to the changing facilities and faced the journey South a little down trodden, but still looking forward to the rest of the season.
The Trojans, celebrated quietly, but must have been very happy with the result.
One down nine to go.
Go Trojans
Final Score West Coast Trojans 64 - Staffordshire Surge 6.
